CEO – Aquaai
Aquaai creates autonomous bio-inspired marine platforms (robotic fish) for a myriad of use cases. Driven by a mission to clean waterways and save life, they apply AI, VR, computer vision and biomimicry to gather data from below the water’s surface. Their bio-inspired vehicle (BIV) platforms carry a payload designed for the customer who receives real-time metrics onto a web dashboard. One satisfied customer, Kvarøy, is a leader in sustainable aquaculture suppling salmon to Whole Foods. Kvarøy uses the Aquaai fishlike platform for Precision Fish Farming, where the optimized data makes certain the salmon and the marine environment remains healthy.
Aquaai came about due to one child’s request to “save the seas.” That child was the daughter of Aquaai’s founder, a son of a farmer, who makes simple, easy to use solutions with great impact drawing from 20+years in robotics and animatronics, water sciences and mechanical design. Aquaai’s team consists of oceanographers, divers, programming gurus and IT veterans, as well as, a media expert.
We sat down to speak with the former New York Times media executive turned CEO of Aquaai Liane Thompson to ask her more about her growing company recently named an Exponential Innovator.
